The Month of Music and Literature
For the past couple of years, November has been, and still is, one of the most awaited months of the year. Not only is the time of perfect weather- the first touches of the chilly winter breeze, cooler nights, a little mist here and there – it is also the month that some of the most awaited events of the year take place. This November, Dhaka has an array of functions, celebrations, and festivals for you to indulge in.
Dhaka International Folk Music Festival, 2015
The first international folk music festival in the country was announced earlier this year, and it is all we've been waiting for! With folk renowned folk singers from home- Farida Parveen, Momtaz Begum, Bari Siddiqui, Rab Fakir, Kiron Chandra Ray, Chandona Majumdar, and more– and abroad– Pakistani singer Abida Parveen and Saieen Zahoor will perform at the event, along with Indian musicians and bands: Papon, Indian Ocean, Nooran Sisters, Rajasthan Folk Group, Arko Mukherjee, Paban Das Baul, to name a few–the folk music fest is anticipated to be just as big and exciting as the annual classical music fest.

Dhaka Literary Festival, 2015
Known previously as Dhaka Hay Festival, Dhaka Lit Fest (DLF) marks the resurrection of the Bangladeshi literary culture, while vigorously engaging other cultures far beyond our borders. This year, the speakers at DLF will include Mohammad Zafar Iqbal, Kaiser Huq, Fakrul Alam, Rehman Sobhan, Ruby Rahman and more from home, and from abroad Ghassan Zaqtan, Avantika Sujan, Jayati Ghosh, Yoss, Victor Mallet, and more.
November 19to 21, 10 am – 8 am, Bangla Academy.
Bengal Classical Music Festival
Every year, since 2013, this particular event is the one everyone anxiously waits for. The Bengal Classical Music Festival, the biggest of its kind, brings in the most popular, globally renowned Indian Classical musicians from home and abroad. Every year people are expectant to see which musical genius will make their first appearance in the festival. Bidushi Girija Devi, Pandit Shivkumar Sharma, Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, Ustad Rashid Khan, Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty, Ustad Rajan Misra and Sajan Misra, Sandeep Banerji, Pandit Samar Saha, and many more will be attending the festival this year.
