‘Worked hard for each run’
Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal spent nearly 55 overs in Chittagong’s scorching heat as he made a so far game-highest 78 against England in the first Test yesterday.
In a calm and mature 179-ball innings on a very difficult pitch to navigate, Tamim set the platform for Bangladesh as they looked to go beyond England’s 293 score in the first innings.
After the match he said that he had to work hard for each and every run and that he was happy with the effort he had produced.
“Look (laughs) I have really really worked hard to score my runs today. I had to work hard to take every run. If I got out playing the wrong shot then of course it would have been very painful. But I think the way I was playing, it was within my control, but it was just not to be. So the effort will be to score big runs as much as possible when I face a situation like this. In the next match I will have to again start from 1,2,3,4. If it was bigger of course I would have been happy. But I’ll take it.”
