Left-handed opener Tamim Iqbal has been appointed vice-captain for the series against Sri Lanka.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) took the decision in its board of directors meeting at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur yesterday.
Tamim and Shakib Al Hasan were axed as vice-captain and captain respectively following the dismal performance on the tour of Zimbabwe in 2011.
In another major decision, the board has given central contract to twelve players for the period of January 1 to December 31 this year which includes Shakib Al Hasan, Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, Tamim Iqbal, Mushfiqur Rahim, Abdur Razzak, Mahmudullah Riyad, Rubel Hossain, Nasir Hossain, Shohag Gazi, Mominul Hoque, Robiul Islam and Anamul Hoque.
This is the first contract for pacer Robiul while Shafiul Islam, Jahurul Islam, Elias Sunny and Abul Hasan are dropped from the previous list.
Former Bangladesh fielding coach Mohammad Salah Uddin has been appointed assistant coach of the national team for the series against Sri Lanka.
