From roller skating to power generation
The Bangladesh Roller Skating Federation (BRSF) yesterday struck a deal with Dhaka Power Distribution Company (DPDC) to sell its additional electricity to meet maintenance expenditure of the federation's mega-steel-structure gymnasium as well as salaries of the federation staff.
The federation is producing nearly 1000 kilowatts of power everyday using solar panels set up on the roof of the gymnasium with the help of Rahimafrooz, but the federation uses only fifty per cent of the produced electricity while the rest remains useless.
“We are producing nearly 30,000 kilowatts of power per month but using only 50 per cent of it,” BRSF general secretary Ahmed Asiful Hasan said. “Today we struck a 20-year deal with DPDC to sell our unused power in a bid to meeting maintenance of such a big structure and bear salaries of the office staff.”
Asiful informed that they are expecting to earn Tk 1.5 to 1.7 lakh from DPDC per month which would meet all of their official expenditure as the government allocates only a small amount per year.
The general secretary also informed Rahimafrooz will start work for building a connecting line to the national grid from today.
The government had built the steel structure at a cost of Tk 11.61 crore ahead of the 4th Roll Ball World Cup earlier this year. The federation roped in some sponsors to set the solar panels at a cost of Tk 1.22 crore.
