Mohammedan victorious against Gazi
The first-round matches of the Dhaka Premier League’s Super League were played in three venues across the capital today with two of the three matches going to the higher-placed side, but the other saw an upset of sorts as league leaders Gazi Group Cricketers lost to sixth-placed Mohammedan SC at the Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah.
Meanwhile, at two BKSP grounds, defending champions Abahani overcame Prime Bank Cricket Club and Prime Doleshwar beat Sheikh Jamal, both through the Duckworth-Lewis method as rain interrupted portions of the matches.
Mohammedan vs Gazi Group
Mohammedan Sporting Club won by seven runs in an exciting game against top-placed Gazi Group in Fatullah. It was Gazi Group’s third consecutive defeat, having earlier lost the last two games of the first phase of the league after winning nine matches on the trot.
Chasing a target of 325 from 50 overs, Gazi Group fell short by seven runs as they managed to reach 317 for the loss of eight wickets.
Munim Shariar scored a magnificent 88 from 83 balls which laid the platform for Gazi to chase down the Mohammedan total. However, Gazi faltered once Munim was dismissed.
Suhrawadi Shuvo struck a 54-ball 57 and Parvez Rasool played a handy 40-run knock but in the end it was not enough to see off the target successfully.
Sajedul Islam, Bipul Sharma and Kamrul Islam Rabbi each picked up two wickets for Mohammedan.
Earlier, Mohammedan posted 324 for eight thanks to a fantastic knock from Rony Talukdar.
Rony struck a 95-ball 92, and his knock contained eight fours and two sixes. Rony and Shamsur Rahman put on a 148-run partnership for the second wicket which laid the foundation for the grand total. Shamsur scored 74 from 95 balls.
Nazmul Hossain Milon’s late flourish with the bat also added much-needed momentum to the Mohammedan innings. Milon scored 47 from 33 deliveries.
Abu Haider took two wickets for Gazi.

Abahani Limited vs Prime Bank
Abahani Limited won against Prime Bank by 60 runs in a rain-interrupted game in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League match at BKSP-4, Savar today.
Chasing a revised target of 334 from 47 overs (D/L) Prime Bank was bowled out for 273 runs in 43.3 overs.
Zakir Hossain scored a quick-fire 55 off 38 balls while Nahidul Islam scored a 29-ball 43 to give the Prime Bank chase some fuel. However, a fine bowling performance from Abahani bowlers allowed them to restrict Prime Bank to 273.
Manan Sharma picked up three wickets for Abahani. Shuvagata Hom, Mohammed Saifuddin and Afif Hossain each picked up two wickets.
Earlier, Abahani posted 321 for the loss of six wickets after a fine batting performance from the team was marked by the brilliant innings of Liton Das scoring a 73-ball 85. He struck eight fours and four sixes.
Nazmul Hossain Shanto who scored 65 off 57 balls contributed along with Mohammed Mithun who scored 60 off 52 balls.
Al Amin picked up two wickets for Prime Bank.

Prime DSC vs Sheikh Jamal
Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club won by 40 runs in another rain interrupted game against Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi after a brilliant ton from Imtiaz Hossain saw them post a formidable 274 runs for the loss seven wickets in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League match at BKSP-3, Savar today.
Chasing a revised target of 292 from 46 overs after (D/L) was introduced, Sheikh Jamal was bowled out for 251 runs in 42.2 overs.
Prashant Chopra(43) and Mahbubul Karim(44) provided a stable ground for Sheikh Jamal to chase the total of 292 but they couldn’t capitalize as they kept losing wickets at key moments.
Habibur Rahman, Farhad Reza, Arafat Sunny and Chaturanga de Silva all picked up two wickets each to restrict Shaikh Jamal to 251.
Earlier, Imitiaz Hossain scored a 109-ball 128 to put Prime Doleshwar in the driving seat. His innings contained 17 boundaries and four sixes.
Shariar Nafees also chipped in with 67 runs. Tanbir Hayder took two wickets for Sheikh Jamal.
