Reasat's shot at redemption
German-based footballer Reasat Islam joined the national football team yesterday ahead of Bangladesh's two international friendlies against Singapore and Afghanistan on May 30 and June 2 respectively.
Reasat had earlier trained under coach Lodewijk de Kruif in the 2013 SAFF Championship training camp but failed to impress the Dutchman. However, he named Reasat in his 32-member preliminary squad for the Joint Qualifiers for World Cup and Asian Cup.
Midfielder Reasat is now playing the top league in Philippines and joined the Bangladesh team following the suspension of Philippine's league due to the national team's preparation for the Joint Qualifiers.
"I am hopeful about my chances because I am not injured this time. I will give my best in the training sessions to secure a place in the national team and the selection is in the hands of the coach," said Reasat, before beginning training at the Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club ground.
