FIFA fines Palmeiras
FIFA's disciplinary committee on Friday sanctioned Brazilian club Palmeiras for flouting its rules governing third party influence on clubs.
The Sao Paulo team were fined 50,000 Swiss francs (46,700 euros, $50,000) over an agreement they had set up with LDU Quito of Ecuador.
A FIFA statement explained: "The club was found to be liable for entering into a contract that enabled the other party to the contract, LDU Quito, to influence the club's independence in employment and transfer-related matters."
Football's ruling body added that all charges against Quito had been dropped "given that SE Palmeiras was not granted any ability to influence LDU Quito's independence in employment and transfer-related matters".
The ban on third-party influence under FIFA's 'regulations on the status and transfer of players' rules was established in 2008.
