Booters' long wait set to end
The Bangladesh national football team are all set to play their first international match in one-and-a-half years after the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) finalised a FIFA friendly against Laos next month. The match will take place in Laos on March 27.
The national players did not play any international match since their shock 1-3 defeat against Bhutan in Asian Cup qualifying playoffs in October, 2016 as there were no FIFA or AFC engagements in the meantime for Bangladesh, who are now 197th in FIFA rankings.
“Bangladesh will travel to Laos to play a friendly match on March 27,” informed BFF general secretary Abu Nayeem Shohag after a meeting of the National Teams Committee yesterday.
“The meeting decided to start the residential camp for the FIFA friendly from February 13 after declaration of the squad on either February 8 or 9,” Shohag said, adding that they would also appoint fitness and goalkeeping coaches soon.
Bangladesh played against Laos only once, back in 2003, with the game ending in a 1-2 defeat for them.
