Dhaka move to top
Dhaka Dynamites moved to the top of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) table when they recorded a comprehensive four-wicket win against Barisal Bulls at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur today.
Chasing a modest target of 133, Dhaka raced to 135 for 6 with four balls to spare. It was Dynamites’ second successive win in the Dhaka leg, which put them at the top on better run-rate ahead of Khulna Titans after both teams were tied on 12 points.
Although in-form opener Mehedi Maruf failed for a change, Kumar Sangakkara (32), Shakib Al Hasan (22), Nasir Hossain (34) and Mosaddek Hossain (23) ensured a smooth chase. Among the quartet, Nasir arguably played the best shot -- a lofted cover drive that sailed over the fence.
Earlier, penetrative and purposeful bowling from Dhaka Dynamites allowed them to restrict Barisal Bulls to 132 for 6 after 20 overs in the 29th match of Bangladesh Premier League 2016 at Mirpur today.
Barisal captain Mushfiqur Rahim opted to bat first after winning the toss, but the Bulls made a terrible start and were tottering at 3-37 inside seven overs. Mushfiqur tried to up the ante with 36 from 30 before he was sent back by Shakib Al Hasan. Rumman Raees used the long handle to smash 25 from 13 balls late in the innings, and gave Barisal’s total some respectability.
Dhaka skipper Shakib used six bowlers to peg back Barisal. Abu Jayed, Dwayne Bravo, Ravi Bopara and Shakib took a wicket each. Dhaka fielders backed up their bowlers and inflicted two run-outs during Barisal’s innings.
