Ultrasound reveals small tear in Imrul's thigh
An ultrasound scan conducted on Bangladesh opener Imrul Kayes’s left thigh on the morning of the last day of the first Test on Monday revealed that there was a small tear, a Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) official in New Zealand said today.
The injury will be revealed after 48 hours. The second Test in Christchurch will start on January 20, which means that the team management can only take a decision on Imrul’s place in the playing eleven on the eve of the game.
There is an equally pressing injury concern over captain Mushfiqur Rahim, who was unable to keep wickets in the first Test after injuring his right thumb while scoring 159 in the first innings in Wellington. Imrul kept wickets for nearly 150 overs in Mushfiqur’s stead. According to sources close to the team, Mushfiqur is still complaining of pain in his thumb.
Bangladesh lost the first Test by seven wickets after scoring 595 for eight declared in the first innings -- the highest first-innings score in Test history to result in a loss. Both Mushfiqur and Imrul batted with injury on the last day in Wellington to save the match, with the former being sent to the hospital after copping a bouncer to the back of his helmet.
