Tamim stands tall with T10 fifty
Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal made his T10 debut in style as he played a lone hand for Pakhtoon in their 27-run thrashing of Team Sri Lanka in the T10 Cricket League at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Friday.
Tamim managed to perfectly pace his innings in a format as short as 10-over cricket, putting together an unbeaten 27-ball 56 that carried the total to 112 for six after Pakhtoon skipper Shahid Afridi won the toss and batted first.
Ahmed Shehzad's 12-ball 24 was the next highest score, and the Pakistan opener scored those runs in a 29-run opening partnership with Tamim. After that opening partnership it was a procession of Pakhtoon batsmen; only Liam Dawson reached double figures with 11 as they lost six wickets for 67 runs.
Tamim, however, opened up in the fourth over, hitting a six off medium pacer Shehan Madushanka over long off. His second six came off off-spinner Shehan Jayasuriya in the sixth over, dancing down the track and hitting it over long on.
In the next over he hit pacer Lahiru Madushanka for two consecutive sixes, and ended the innings with three boundaries off left-arm pacer Vishwa Fernando, reaching his fifty with the second one off his 25th ball.
In reply, Team Sri Lanka were restricted 84 for seven, with Wahindu Hasaranga top-scoring with an unbeaten 12-ball 31.
