Tamim blazes to highest List A score
Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal stood alone in scoring 157 for Mohammedan SC to set up a 24-run win over Kalabagan Krira Chakra in their Dhaka Premier League match at the BKSP today. The next-highest score in Mohammedan’s score of 307 for nine was fellow opener Shamsur Rahman’s 38 after Tamim won the toss and elected to bat first. It was Tamim’s highest score in List A cricket, beating his 154 against Zimbabwe in 2009 in Bulawayo.
In the day’s other matches Gazi Group Cricketers rode on a Parvez Rasool four-for and twin half-centuries from former national openers Anamul Haque and Jahurul Islam to beat Victoria Sporting Club by eight wickets in Fatullah, while back at the BKSP an Al-Amin century set up a 59-run win for Prime Bank Cricket Club over Khelagar Samaj Kalyan Samity.
But the innings of the day belonged to one of Bangladesh’s most celebrated players as Tamim was the only batsman for Mohammedan to build on a good start. He put on 73 for the first wicket with Shamsur, 57 for the second with Rony Talukder and 77 for the fifth wicket with Mehedi Hasan Miraz, but apart from the opening stand he dominated each stand in his expertly paced innings.
Tamim scored his first 50 off 61 balls, took 41 for his second half-ton and scored his last 50 off 21 balls before he was caught off Sanjit Saha in the 43rd over with the score on 248. His 125-ball innings featured 18 boundaries and seven sixes.
At another BKSP venue, 23-year-old middle-order batsman Al-Amin scored his second List A century, an unbeaten 106, to guide Prime Bank to a strong 307 for six after skipper Mehedi Maruf chose to bat first. Al-Amin hit nine fours and three sixes in his 94-ball innings. In reply, Khelaghar's top and middle order got into the game, but none could carry on to bigger things as they were bundled out for 248 in 47.1 overs. Nazmus Sadat top-scored with 56 while Rubel Hossain, Nahidul Islam and Unmukt Chand grabbed two wickets apiece for Prime Bank.
At Fatullah, Gazi Group's Indian import Rasool took for for 28 with his off-spinners to help skittle Victoria out for a sub-par 177 in 48.4 overs after Victoria chose to bat. Gazi Group cantered to an eight-wicket win in just 31.2 overs, courtesy of 101-run opening stand between Anamul (50 off 47) and Jahurul (52 off 73). Then, an unbroken 74-run stand for the third wicket between Mominul Haque (30 off 37) and skipper Nasir Hossain (32-ball 41) took them home with time to spare.
