Run fest in Rajshahi
The second day of the National Cricket League's second round witnessed a run fest yesterday with three centurions. Mizanur Rahman and Jahurul Islam smacked hundreds to force Rajshahi into a strong position against Chittagong at the Shahid Kamruzzaman Stadium in Rajshahi while former national player Shohag Gazi reached the landmark and in the process helped Barisal post 419 against Dhaka Metro at the Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna.
In reply to Chittagong's 141, Rajshahi posted 482 for five yesterday. With an overnight score of 121 for 1, Rajshahi continued with their onslaught. Opener Mizanur hit 144 off just 163 balls. He hit four sixes and 18 fours during his knock. Skipper Jahurul joined in the fun by hitting 131 off 141 deliveries, hitting 17 fours and two sixes on a track that seemed very good for batting.
Chittagong, who are playing this round without Mominul Haque who is currently nursing a hip injury, will find it extremely difficult to step out of the hole that they have gotten into, with the first innings lead sitting at 341 and threatening to balloon out of control today.
At Khulna, Shohag Gazi, who had an overnight score of 87, scored his sixth first-class century. He smashed 13 fours and four sixes. After Barisal was bowled out for 419, Dhaka Metro finished the day on 145 for three.
