PERFORMER OF THE DAY
KUSAL MENDIS
Kusal Mendis is not the most attractive batsman in world cricket; neither is he the most aggressive one. But he is a gritty customer, and given any reprieve he could be a punishing one. The 22 year-old right-hander was let off very early in the first Test against Bangladesh in Colombo, and he went on to score a match-winning knock of 194. Although yesterday in the second ODI in Dambulla, the one-down batsman didn't get any life, he grafted out his initial struggle to punish the visitors with a century. Coming on to bat in the third over, the batsman took a while to get going, but once he did get going, he started playing his shots all around the ground. He eventually got out for 102 off 197 deliveries, giving the hosts a solid platform for their 311-run total.
