Kolkata ease past Delhi
Gautam Gambhir played a captain's innings to lead Kolkata Knight Riders to a comfortable six-wicket win over the Delhi Daredevils at the Feroz Shah Kotla yesterday.
Batting first Delhi were restricted to 146 for 8 in 20 overs courtesy of some good bowling from KKR's pacers Utpal Yadav and Morne Morkel. Each of them took two wickets and ran through the middle order.
Leg-spinner Piyush Chawla was as good as he bowled a brilliant spell, picking two wickets.
After the exchange, Kolkata began on a rough note as they stumbled to 31 for 2 in five overs. They lost both Manish Pandey and Robin Uthappa in the fifth over. However, Suryakumar Yadav then joined Gambhir to rebuild the innings. Yadav hammered a six and two fours in his 16-ball 24 before getting caught behind in the 10th over.
The hard hitting Yousuf Pathan joined Gambhir next and the pair hammered a half-century stand and avoided any further jitters to take Kolkata home.
Gambhir ended up reaching his half-century with a boundary in just 38 balls. He ended up getting bowled for 60, in the 18th over when Kolkata required just three runs to finish the game. Pathan had as much fun, hammering six fours and a six in his 26-ball 40.
