Ganguly set for new role
Former India captain Sourav Ganguly is all set to join the Indian team but this time in an avatar. Ganguly, the man under whose captaincy Indian cricket learned how to give it back as hard as you get, could soon be seen calling the shots for the Indian team as the team director or the High Performance Manager.
With the Indian team set for the start of a new season with the upcoming Bangladesh tour, the new BCCI bosses may also announce significant changes in the support staff to boost the team's overseas record.
According to various media reports, Ganguly will either take charge of Team Director or the High Performance Manager in a couple of days.
Winning abroad is BCCI's top priority at the moment and the board believes Shastri hasn't delivered on that front since his appointment with the national team. And Ganguly's successful record away from home works in his favour.
Ganguly is also likely to travel to Bangladesh with the team. Media reports also suggest Ganguly has told the board that he would only be interested in the position if given a longer stint. The former captain apparently wants to prepare a team for the 2019 World Cup.
It has also been learnt that the board is keen to acknowledge Shastri's work with the team by appointing him as the BCCI adviser. According to reports, Sachin Tendulkar is also likely to be appointed as the board adviser in the committee that will advice the BCCI on all matters related to cricket.
