Feels good to have played for 10 years, says Mahmudullah
Bangladesh’s Mahmudullah Riyad talked to reporters today at Mirpur and answered questions on a range of issues, including the completion of ten years wearing the Bangladesh jersey.
Mahmudullah informed the reporters that Bangladesh physio have seen him. He hopes to start cycling from tomorrow and feels that his condition has gotten better compared to the past two days.
Asked about his decade old Bangladesh career Mahmudullah replied: “Feels good. I have now spent ten years wearing the Bangladesh jersey. I wish to perform for some more years.
On the topic of how his experience will impact Bangladesh cricket, he said: “I think that Mashrafe, Sakib, Tamim and Mushfiq have also completed ten years. Personally, I feel it’s a very positive factor for my personal career.
“There is a lot more responsibility. The way we are going now, the idea is to be able to carry out the responsibilities, as long as I can.
“I hope the others will play on for a long time as well. The experiences of the players have meant that our combinations right now are very good.
Asked how the ten years have shaped him in terms of fitness and performance, he answered that in terms of mentality he is now more organized and also very attack-minded. Fitness wise he is in a much better shape than when he arrived at the team but stated that it’s also important to keep remaining fit.
On the topic of World Cup win he said: “It is something that takes time. What I think is that 2018 is very important for us. This year will give us confidence needed ahead of the 2019 World Cup. Therefore, the year before the World Cup is very critical for us.”
