Four uncapped players in Ctg Test squad
Newcomers Mehedi Hasan Miraz, Nurul Hasan and Kamrul Islam Rabbi and all-rounder Sabbir Rahman earned their places in the 14-man squad for the first Test match against England at MA Aziz Stadium, Chittagong due to begin on October 20, Thursday.
Mehedi Hasan Miraz is a right-arm offspinner who also bats right-handed. Nurul Hasan is the wicketkeeper-batsman, Kamrul Islam Rabbi is a right-arm pacer while Sabbir is a right-handed middle order batsman.
With Shafiul Islam the other pacer in the squad, Rabbi is expected to make his debut while Miraz, the former under-19 skipper, also has a good chance to debut for his all-round skills. Sabbir, regarded a certainty in the shorter formats for Bangladesh, was called up to the Test squad for the first time, thanks to his 30 from 45 balls during the tour match on October 14.
The squad suggests the Tigers will be relying heavily on their spin battery, with Shakib Al Hasan, Taijul Islam as frontline spinners aided by Mahmudullah Riyad. It could turn out to be a battle between young Miraz and veteran Shuvagata Hom, both possessing similar qualities, for the other spinning option.
There weren't however any surprises regarding the batsmen, with Soumya Sarkar's inclusion in the squad quite expected as he got some runs under his belt during the tour match earlier.
Squad:
Tamim Iqbal, Soumya Sarkar, Imrul Kayes, Mominul Haque, Shakib Al Hasan, Mahmudullah Riyad, Shuvagata Hom, Mushfiqur Rahim (Captain), Sabbir Rahman, Mehedi Hasan Miraz, Shafiul Islam, Taijul Islam, Kamrul Islam Rabbi and Nurul Hasan
