BCB to rehire Ramanayake?
Speculation was rife at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium yesterday that Champaka Ramanayake would be hired by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) as a bowling consultant for their players at all levels of cricket aside from the national team.
Ramanayake had served as the Tigers' bowling coach for two years from 2008 to 2010, so he will be familiar with the ins and outs of Bangladesh cricket. There are also plans for a camp to be arranged under the Sri Lankan's supervision, where he will train promising pace bowlers.
Bangladesh have already got a legendary bowling coach in the form of Courtney Walsh to lead the national side, but with a busy schedule coming up for the national team it will be difficult for Walsh to have an impact on the age-level and High Performance cricketers, which is one of the reasons that Sri Lanka may be brought in.
Ramayanake resigned his post as Sri Lanka's bowling coach after their series against Zimbabwe, citing personal reasons. He had held the post for two years in his second stint after coming in to replace Chaminda Vaas. Prior to Vaas, who will replace him again, he held the position for two years.
