'No comment' from Mahmud
Having endured a tumultuous stint as the technical director of the Bangladesh team during the recent ODI tri-series and Test and T20I series against Sri Lanka, former Bangladesh captain Khaled Mahmud was in no mood to talk about Bangladesh's upcoming tour of Sri Lanka for a tri-nation T20I tournament or his possible involvement with it.
After a tri-series final loss to Sri Lanka and subsequent thumping losses in the bilateral series, which were followed by an emotional outburst from the erstwhile technical director, Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hassan said on Monday that Mahmud would no longer be technical director and was non-committal about whether Mahmud would travel to Sri Lanka as a manager -- a role he had performed in the past.
"No comment about the national team," said Mahmud yesterday when reporters asked him whether he was going to Sri Lanka with the national team. Instead, he wanted to talk about the Dhaka Premier League in his capacity as coach of Abahani who have so far won all their matches in the competition.
Although not talking about the national team, he did say that he thought that Abahani and Bangladesh batsman Mosaddek Hossain is lacking in rhythm currently. "Lack of training is a factor because he was ill [eye infection] for a while, and when you are going through a bad time and not scoring as much there is an issue with confidence. In the last match he played a bad shot to get out, which is not expected of him. He is a very good player. I hope he will be back soon."
