Bangladesh victory leaves Brett Lee in awe
Bangladesh vice-captain Mahmudullah Riyad's epic six off the penultimate ball of the last over which not only capped an epic victory but also took the Tigers to the finals of the Nidahas Trophy tournament had allowed audience to leap in joy or find the time to catch their breath – or in some case left jaws open.
That was the case with former Australian pace sensation Brett Lee, who had left his mouth open, apparently bewildered by the drama of the match and also the way that Mahmudullah had so nonchalantly picked up Isuruna Idana's delivery over backward square-leg for six.
The Australian was lost for words as Bangladesh players and fans leapt up in joy. The multitalented Australian, who wears many hats as a singer, cricketer or actor is in Sri Lanka to commentate on the Nidahas Trophy tournament. The tension and drama had brought the game where there needed to be a release point for the tension to breath itself out and Riyad's six provided it to the Tigers' fans.
This essentially is what cricket is about -- the pressure and building upto that moment where Tigers needed 12 runs off the last over, then the two dot balls and the controversy surrounding it followed by a magnificent cricket shot from the Tigers' vice captain to take his team to the final of the tournament in a do-or-die match.
