Arambagh out of drop zone
Arambagh KS moved out of the drop zone in the Bangladesh Premier League with a 1-0 win over Team BJMC in their penultimate round encounter at the Bangabadhu National Stadium yesterday.
Substitute defender Arif struck the all-important goal from a goal-mouth melee seven minutes from time to take Arambagh up to seventh position with 20 points from 21 matches. The win took them six points clear of bottom-placed Farashganj SC.
Team BJMC had come into the match after having successfully avoided relegation with 19 points, which is where they remained but slipped to ninth position after having conceded their 10th defeat in 21 matches.
Meanwhile, Rahmatganj MFS moved a point above Farashganj SC after holding Sheikh Russel to a 0-0 draw in the day's second match. The result means Sheikh Russel, currently on 26 points, will finish the league in sixth position.
However, it will likely be a battle between Farashganj, on 14 points, and Rahmatganj, on 15 points to avoid relegation in the last round of matches. Muktijoddha Sangsad, who are on 17 points, are likely to stay safe even if they lose their last match as they have a very favourable goal difference.
