Speedy power supply act gets 4-year extension
The Jatiya Sangsad yesterday passed the Speedy Supply of Power and Energy (Special Provision) (Amendment) Bill, 2015 in order to extend the tenure of the act till October 11, 2018.
The law aims at quick disposal of contracts in the power and energy sector to meet the demand for power and energy within a short time.
Parliament also passed Bangladesh Energy and Power Research Council (BEPRC) Bill, 2015 aiming to achieve excellence in the power and energy sector through research and development.
Nasrul Hamid, state minister for power, energy and mineral resources, moved the bills in the House which were passed by voice votes.
He had placed the BEPRC bill in the JS on September 3 which was sent to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry for scrutiny.
The bill will pave the way for setting up Bangladesh Energy and Power Research Council in Dhaka, which will have a 10-member governing body and an advisory council headed by the minister or state minister of the ministry.
