A judicial commission to probe 'snoopgate' allegedly involving Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi will be in place before the Lok Sabha poll process comes to an end on May 16, the government asserted yesterday rejecting questions raised by the BJP over it.
The assertion by India's Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde and Law Minister Kapil Sibal evoked a sharp reaction from BJP which said it reflects "arrogance" of UPA which, he claimed, is being voted out of power soon.
The case involves snooping of a woman by the Gujarat authorities allegedly at the behest of Modi.
Meanwhile, a controversy has broken out if India's government-owned TV channel Doordarshan deliberately edited out some remarks by BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi in which he had reportedly said that Priyanka Gandhi is like his daughter and described Sonia Gandhi's close aide Ahmed Patel as a one-time friend he often ate with.
In an interview to Doordarshan telecast on Sunday, Modi, who was recently involved in a war of words with Priyanka campaigning for her brother Rahul and mother Sonia in national elections, had reportedly said that he considers Priyanka like his daughter, reported our New Delhi correspondent.
When Priyanka was asked on Thursday to comment on Modi's purported remark, she said curtly “I am Rajiv Gandhi's daughter”.
In what promises to spice up electioneering in one of the most high-profile constituencies in Indian national elections, Modi will campaign in Amethi where Rahul Gandhi is in fray.  Modi will address a rally in Amethi on May 5 for his party candidate actress Smriti Irani who is challenging Rahul.
