Slack second spell of hartal underway
The second spell of the countrywide hartal sponsored by the Jamaat-e-Islami protesting the death penalty of party chief Motiur Rahman Nizami is underway in Dhaka in a relaxed manner.
The shutdown started at 6:00am today and will continue till 6:00am on Tuesday.
Public transportation was seen plying city streets though the traffic appeared shallower than the usual days. Additional deployment of police was seen through all key points in the city.
Trains were operating normally.
Additionally, the International Crimes Tribunal is set to deliver the verdict of Mir Quasem Ali for crimes committed against humanity during Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971.
On Wednesday, Jamaat called the hartal for Thursday, Sunday and Monday after ICT-1 handed down death to Nizami for his crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971.
Visiting different parts of the capital including Banglamotor, Mirpur, Motijheel, Jatrabari and Gulshan, our correspondents found that large numbers of public transports plying the streets.
