The Brady Bunch (1969 - 1974)
The Brady Bunch revolves around two merged families as one, originating when Mike Brady, a widowed architect with three sons from California, marries Carol, a charming lady who herself is a single mother raising three daughters. Setting the plot for one of the most popular family based sitcoms of all-time, the house roofs two parents with six children- Greg, Marcia, Peter, Jan, Bobby and Cindy, along with Alice the housekeeper, and Tiger, the family dog. The first season was based on the family trying to adjust and live together. The following seasons revolved predominantly around the six siblings growing up and going through childhood, adolescence and the many phases of life.
The show had a positive outlook on life. It emphasised on the discipline children had to abide by, the respect they nurtured for each other and the work they had to do together as a family- none of which are present, nor of much interest in today's sitcoms. From the perspective of family values, the people that used to watch the show definitely had a lot to learn and apply to their everyday lives. Even though it was not the funniest show on television, it surely was a rather decent one- It never had any explicit use of words, though everybody had their arguments, no fist fights were in the show and every episode concluded with everybody loving each other. Thus everyone enjoyed the show.
Several spin-offs to the original series were made, featuring all or most of the original cast. These include another sitcom, an animated series, a variety show, television movies, a dramatic series, a stage play, and theatrical movies. The Brady Bunch has had a cult following especially because of the fact that nearly every episode involved something that the audience could relate to and will forever remain a television classic.
