This critically-acclaimed movie by Spike Jonze has been hailed as a masterpiece for its story starring Joaquin Phoenix talking to and falling in love with a computer operating system voiced by the sultry Scarlett Johansson. The film won the Best Screenplay Award at Golden Globes this year and is up for five Oscar nominations including Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay. You like sci-fi and gadgets. She loves rom-coms. Win-win situation for both.
Gunday's promotions have picked up pace ahead of its Valentine Day release. Its impossible you haven't heard about this Yash Raj Film about Bikram (Ranveer Singh) and Bala (Arjun Kapoor) set in 1970s Calcutta along with Priyanka Chopra. We like the action and some songs already although it's safe to say that the usually romantic genre-led YRF could have offered viewers something more well, romantic, on Valentine Day. You'll love the action and bromance while your girl will surely love Calcutta.
Fandry is an indie movie that won critical acclaim at the 2013 Mumbai Film Festival where it won the Grand Jury Prize. The Marathi movie will presumably have a limited release but this romantic movie set amidst caste discrimination will definitely tug both your heartstrings. This is a hit-or-miss option although we're betting it'll be a safe bet for both men and women.
ALL IS LOST
All is Lost is moving into guy-survival arena, a genre your girl will probably not enjoy. The movie follows the story of Robert Redford who is stuck at sea waiting to be rescued. It has no dialogues to speak of and has been critically acclaimed since its premiere at Cannes 2013. There's no love here and nor does Redford look like eye-candy for your girl. She might feel empathy for him though and you will love the survival story.
Set amidst the times of gladiators, Pompeii is a story of love and war. We were going to exclude this movie from our list because it seemed like another disaster movie with senseless action and violence that your girlfriend might not forgive you for showing her on Valentine's Day. Then we discovered Pompeii is produced and directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, the guy behind the Resident Evil films. You will love the action while she might enjoy the Roman history, not to mention she'll go gaga over Kit Harington's (yes, the same Kit who plays Jon Snow in the Game of Thrones) eye-popping abs!
