Sonakshi Stands for Gender Equality in Bollywood

Bollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha has recently stated that women in Indian film industry have been playing the “waiting game” for a very long time. They always have to wait for validation and acceptance of their works. The long wait for permission and approval make them seem less credible alongside the male actors of Bollywood. “I want to live in a world where we, as women, are able to choose. Women are always waiting to be protected, rescued, for permission, validation, acceptance and approval,” Sonakshi said in an event. Sonakshi, who has portrayed strong female characters in movies like Akira, Force 2 and Noor, believes that being an artist gives her the means to make a difference. Recently the gender imparity in casting actors for movies has been labeled as a disgraceful act in Bollywood. Thus, Sonakshi's statement on equality was acknowledged as a pertinent issue by other female actresses.
