Harry Potter author JK Rowling has defended the decision to cast Johnny Depp in the next Fantastic Beasts movie after a hostile response from his fans about the circumstances of the actor's recent divorce. Rowling believes that the circumstances of Depp's divorce from actress Amber Heard were private and should be respected. In her personal website, she said that filmmakers have considered recasting the role of the villain Gellert Grindelwald for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. “The filmmakers and I are not only comfortable sticking with our original casting, but genuinely happy to have Johnny playing a major character in the movies,” she added. Warner Bros also released a statement saying that they continue to support the decision to proceed with Johnny Depp in the role of Grindelwald in this and future films.
