Celebrating Life at Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University
The Daily Star and Standard Chartered Bank started an initiative nine years back to patronize those with hidden talents in film making, photography and lyric writing, titled Celebrating Life. The initiative aims to capture the Heritage of Bangladesh through Film, Photography and Lyrics, and bring out talented artists in the field from all across Bangladesh. The winning works from last year were selected and showcased at different universities across Bangladesh through Celebrating Life Festivals.
A photo exhibition and film screening was recently arranged at the Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University. The winning photographs from Celebrating Life 2015 were exhibited along with a number of short films and documentaries. The photo exhibition was inaugurated by the Treasurer, Prof. A. M. M. Shamsur Rahman. Since the exams were underway, few students showed up at the inauguration ceremony; however, the hall was abuzz and packed with students soon after.
The first half of the film showcase was scheduled from noon till 3:00 pm, and the second half from 3:00–6:00 pm. Accompanying the enthusiastic students, there were a handful of professors at the first screening which was a house-full, but interestingly, despite the absence of air conditioners, there were even more students for the second screening. The lack of seats and the humid environment did not seem to ruin their concentration towards the film. A few students from the first screening enjoyed it so much that they decided to stay back for the second.
Overall, the daylong event came to an end as anticipated, leaving everyone with a sense of gratitude towards Celebrating Life and hoping for more such initiatives in the future.
