Nitty-Gritty with NAUMI
Naumi: "I have been riding the success of "Cholo Na Brishti Te Bhiji" for a while now. I have been receiving appreciation from my well-wishers through the social media. This is what I have always desired. I wanted to make songs that justify my taste and I have been successful in doing so. Due to this reason, a lot of songs had to be rejected since they did not fit my preference. I received love from the audience for the song "Tumi Hina" from the movie "Tarkata". Songs with such likeable tunes make it very easy for me to sing honestly because I find peace within these songs."
Her first album was released in 2011 which was tuned and voiced by Ibrar Tipu, Arefin Rumi and Imran and was highly appreciated by her fans. According to Naumi, the record companies pre-determine an album's composer and also the co-artists which make it difficult to do one's own music. That is why she has maintained some distance from the industry. For the last two years, she has practised rigorously with the singers and composers of her choice (earlier it would be dictated by her mother), and in the process, this strengthened her foundation as a singer. Following the various experiments with her songs, she has now decided to release a single as well as an album. Naumi is rather excited at this point of her career and would love to grow as a singer, yet, she is least bothered about gaining popularity. She is proud to make her decisions as a self-determinant singer, a habit which she maintained since her childhood. Even in the absence of her mentoring mother, she would practise by herself with her harmonium.
Considering seven to be her lucky number, Naumi mentioned, "Interestingly, I was among the top seven in 'Channel i Khude Gaanraj' and at the time I was in the seventh grade." She also added, "The platform played a tremendous role in helping me pursue singing as a profession. I first sang in a mixed album in 2010, along with Kumar Bishwajit, which I believe served as a stepping stone in my career." At first Naumi took music lessons from her ustad Komol, but currently she is putting a lot of effort to learn Indian classical from Kumar Dhar. When questioned about her beloved singers, Naumi replied, "First and foremost, I admire Shahnaz Rahmatullah immensely and I'm mesmerized by her melodious tone. Besides her, I highly appreciate Runa Laila, Sabina Yasmin, Kumar Bishwajit and Subir Nandi.
The talented singer is also trying her luck as a TV hostess for a music-related live show titled "Your Choice" which has gained popularity among her fans. Naumi added, "When I first started the show, many spoke ill of it, but I continued regardless. Since it's a music based show, I'm surrounded by many from the industry, and that in turn has taught me a lot of the know-hows of this trade." She said, "However, my world revolves around my parents, and since they are both service holders, I often miss them dearly. I wish I could've spent more time with them."
When we inquired about her love-life, she replied after a moment of pondering, "I cannot trust anyone completely. Perhaps that's the reason behind the void. However, I do have a lot of friends, and a few have even taken a liking towards me, but I can't help it. Like I said, I have trust issues." When queried about the qualities she would look for in a partner, Naumi reacted by saying, "He must be sensible, possess a sense of humour, should be able to read me through my eyes and never try to dominate the relationship. That is the kind of guy I fancy, and I'm still waiting for my prince charming! However, when it comes to showbiz, my celebrity crushes are Johnny Depp and Leonardo DiCaprio."
