Struggles of having zero fashion sense
There hasn't been a day in my life when I haven't wondered how other people seemed to have such impeccable sense of dressing. How did they manage to put together outfits based on their skin tone, body shape, height, eye colour, contrasting shades and zodiac signs and pulled it off perfectly whereas I just wore the first thing I got my hands on after I woke up? Why did the item that looked great on one of my friends make me look like a drag queen when I bought it?
Speaking on behalf my fellow comrades (or if correctly phrased, people who are as clueless as me when it comes to dressing nicely), it's a constant struggle to buy clothes whenever an occasion is looming on the horizon because the horror of choosing outfits for ourselves and making ourselves look presentable seems to be the hardest thing in the world. Thankfully, most of us have a family member/friend who helps us not face this dilemma between buying the same shirt for the fifth time or overalls. As for myself, I have no idea what goes with what and most of the time I depend on my sister to buy nice clothes for herself as well as for me and then I keep borrowing clothes from her closet.
Design catalogues that you find when you're instructing your tailor to make a customised dress are a gift from God because it saves the time and the feeling of despair we constantly face. Thank God for designers who came up with 5894203 types of necklines and designs even though choosing one out of all these designs is a Herculean task in itself. The easiest way to decide is probably closing your eyes and pointing, and going with the design which your finger landed on. Shopping for someone else is a complete nightmare too because how on earth are we supposed to pick clothes for someone else when we don't know what colours go with what, let alone what's in trend right now?
Fashion magazine jargons are Yiddish to us and people who get all the things that are written there belong to a whole new species. I wouldn't deny that I tried to read a few of those and failed miserably, but it's the thought that counts, right?
How to stop feeling like a complete outsider when it comes to outfits, makeup tips, and accessories, you ask? Google, YouTube, and Pinterest are your new best friends. At least now I know that there are "warm tones" and "cool tones" that you're supposed to match your foundation to and somehow it's going to transform you into a whole new person. And who knows? I might be one of the fashion savvy people if I do my research right.
