BRACU hosts 1st inter university chess championship

SHITAB MUSHFIQ-UL ISLAM

The Berger 1st Inter-university Chess Championship started on September 25, 2017, with 20 teams from 15 universities of Bangladesh hosted by BRAC University Chess Club.

The 3 days of intense matches took place in the auditorium of BRAC University (BRACU), where all the best chess players from the universities all over Bangladesh were under the same roof. Many teams had internationally rated players on their sides, where on the other hand some had rookie players with no competitive experience whatsoever. In spite of all that, all the teams brought their best game and were equally matched up in the competition. After the matches, Jahangirnagar University was crowned the champions. The runners-up BRAC University Red Team were behind by just 1 game point.

Through this event, the organisers of BRAC University Chess Club were hoping to promote chess on a wider scale. Inspiring the youth, chess aims to form a smarter group of leaders and create minds that can outthink conundrums. Making a career, exercising minds, solving problems, representing your country on the international stage is just a glimpse of the future that the game has to offer. In the end, we all wish to excel no matter which career we choose or what sport we play and hope all pieces will fall in the right places.
