Book launching ceremony held at NSU
The Department of Political Science and Sociology (PSS) of North South University (NSU) arranged a book launching ceremony for "Governance in South, Southeast, and East Asia: Trends, Issues and Challenges", jointly written by Prof. Salahuddin M Aminuzzaman and Prof. Syeda Lasna Kabir, and edited by Ishtiaq Jamil, Salahuddin M Aminuzzaman and Sk Tawfique M Haque.
Dr. Hossain Zillur Rahman, former adviser, caretaker government of Bangladesh, unveiled the book as chief guest while M. A. Kashem, Chairman, BoT, NSU also graced the ceremony as special guest. Prof. Amin Sarkar, Vice Chancellor, NSU chaired the programme and Dr. Sk Tawfique M Haque, Director, PPG Programme, delivered the welcome speech.
Dr. Akbar Ali Khan and M Hafizuddin Khan, former advisers, caretaker government of Bangladesh; Dr. Iftekharuzzaman, Executive Director, TIB and Prof. M Emdadul Haq and Prof. Abdur Rob Khan, Department of Political Science and Sociology, NSU also spoke at the event.
Seminar to enhance knowledge dissemination at WUB
Researchers in a seminar at the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of the World University of Bangladesh (WUB) proposed the alternative use of membrane technology for CO2 separation. In a paper presented by Dr. Md. Musfiqur Rahman, Post-Doctoral Researcher, Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht, Institute of Polymer Research, Department of Polymer Synthesis, Geesthacht, Germany, he emphasises that nanotechnology can improve the separation performance of commercially available polymer manufactures and hence contribute to power development. This was a series of the seminars held in the department of EEE in collaboration with IEEE to enhance knowledge dissemination. The session was graced by the pioneer of Engineering Education for Diploma Engineers in Bangladesh and the VC of the university, Emeritus Professor Dr. Abdul Mannan Choudhury as the chief guest. Amongst others present were Prof. Dr. M Nurul Islam, Pro-VC of WUB; Prof. AFM Abdur Rouf, Dean of the Faculty of Sciences of WUB and Prof. Dr. Quazi Deen Mohammad Khosru, Advisor, Department of EEE, WUB as special guests. Prof. Dr. Md. Amanullah Choudhury, Head, Department of EEE, WUB chaired the session.
ULAB Social Welfare Club arranges Charity Cultural Show
ULAB Social Welfare Club believes in helping and supporting the needy and underprivileged community of all age groups for a healthy and peaceful society. The club arranged a "Cultural Charity Show" on August 5, 2015 at ULAB auditorium with the objective of "Sharing Eid Happiness with underprivileged Street Children".
The programme began with an inaugural speech by Prof. H.M. Jahirul Haque, Pro-VC, ULAB and later continued with the performances by young students of ULAB and faculty members.
The programme was arranged by SWC's Advisor and Associate Professor of ULAB School of Business, Dr. Pinki Shah.
WTU offers scholarships to BUFT students
Ten students and three faculty members from various departments of BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT) received "President Scholarship 2015" in Masters Programme at Wuhan Textile University (WTU), China under the education collaboration agreement between BUFT and WTU.
Faculty members selected for scholarship are: Mohammed Irfan Iqbal and Soumya Chowdhury from Textile Engineering (TE) department and Tanjibul Hasan from Fashion Design & Technology (FDT) department. The name of the students are: Sourab Ghosh, Md. Ashiqul Islam and Md. Adnan Hossain from Apparel Manufacture & Technology (AMT); Atharul Islam Dipto, Md. Shariful Islam and Md. Tanvir Hayat from Knitwear Manufacture & Technology (KMT) and Md. Ataullah, Md. Nazmul Haque Maruf, Md. Moniruzzaman and Abdullah Jaman Jony from Fashion Design & Technology (FDT) department. The scholarships will cover all the living and educational expenses.
Discussion seminar on Actuarial Science held at EWU
A discussion seminar on Actuarial Science was held on the eve of initiation of the Postgraduate Diploma in Actuarial Science Programme at the East West University (EWU) on August 4, 2015 at Aftabnagar, Dhaka. The seminar was organised by the Department of Applied Statistics, EWU.
M. Shefaque Ahmed, Actuary, Chairman, Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority, delivered his speech as the chief guest. Dr. Sohrab Uddin, Actuary, Chairman, Sadharan Bima Corporation and Prof. Ahmed Shafee, VC, EWU were present as special guests at the seminar. Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, Chairperson, BOT of EWU and former Governor of Bangladesh Bank chaired the seminar. The course curriculum was presented by Prof. Dr. M Ataharul Islam, Chairperson, Department of Applied Statistics, and Prof. Dr. M. Mosleh-Uddin, Member of the BOT and the Programme Advisor of the Department of Applied Statistics, EWU conducted the open discussion in the seminar.
It may be noted that, a postgraduate diploma in the actuarial science programme will start at the Department of Applied Statistics of EWU, from September 2015. This is going to be the first such a programme to be offered by any university in Bangladesh.
JPGSPH, BRACU celebrates 10 years in public health education
The James P Grant School of Public Health, BRAC University (JPGSPH) celebrated its 10 year anniversary last week. The celebrations commenced on August 2, 2015 at the main JPGSPH campus in Mohakhali with a cultural programme performed by the current batch of students undertaking the Masters of Public Health at the School. This was followed by a concert by popular Bengali band Shunno.
The festivities continued with a formal reception held on August 4 at BRAC Centre. Sir Fazle Hasan Abed, Founder & Chairperson, BRAC; Prof. Syed Saad Andaleeb, VC, BRACU; Dr. John Clemens, Executive Director, ICDDR,B shared the vision behind establishing JPGSPH, the school's contribution to public health education and research in Bangladesh and the future of public health education in Bangladesh.
JPGSPH is currently accepting applications for its 12th batch of the Masters of Public Health programme, to begin in January 2016.
SEU VC receives Asia's Education Excellence Award
VC of Southeast University (SEU) Prof. Anwar Hossain has been honoured with the Asia's Education Excellence Award presented by the World Education Congress.
These awards of the highest stature are presented to individuals and institutions who have surpassed several levels of its excellence and set examples of being role models.
The jury has decided to honour Prof. Anwar Hossain with the "Award for Outstanding Contribution to Education". The Award consists of a trophy and a citation.
Prof. Anwar Hossain was invited to accept the award in person on August
12, 2015 at Pan Pacific Marina Square,
Singapore.
