AIUB signs MoU with Samsung R&D
Samsung Research and Development Institute Bangladesh LTD. (SRBD), one of the research and development operations of the electronic industry giant Samsung International based in Korea has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the American International University - Bangladesh (AIUB) as research and technical partners to mutually promote the mobile and other consumer driven programme and system development. The MoU was formalised upon the signing of Dr. Carmen Z. Lamagna, VC of AIUB and Dr. Nam Kyu Lee, Managing Director of SRBD. The signing ceremony was also witnessed by Dr. Tabin Hasan, Head (Postgraduate Programme); Dr. Dip Nandi Head (Undergraduate Programme); Prof. Dr. Hasan Jamil (Visiting Professor) of Department of Computer Science, and Mohammad Shahidul Islam, Director of Mobile Development, Wahidur Rahman, Senior Chief Engineer and Raquibul Hasan from SRBD.
Stamford organises iftaar for the underprivileged

Stamford University Volunteers organised a fund raiser within their campus from July 4 to July 7, 2015. All teachers and staff contributed generously. All the funds raised were used to provide iftaar for the students of the street school run by Live for Change on July 8. The students of the school are all street dwellers living in rail stations and slums near the city's main airport. Stamford University Volunteers and the students of the school enjoyed iftaar together and talked about the importance of education. Both the volunteers and the students of the school enjoyed their time together. Volunteers sincerely thank all the staff and teachers who have helped them make this program possible.
Pharmacy Department orientation at SEU
Orientation and fresher's reception programme for newly enrolled students of the Department of Pharmacy of Southeast University (SEU) was held on July 11, 2015 in the Seminar Hall of SEU at Banani, Dhaka.
VC of SEU Prof. Anwar Hossain was present as chief guest, while Pro-VC Prof. Dr. Md. Humayun Kabir Chowdhury was present as special guest. Director, Technical Operations of Incepta Pharmaceuticals Ltd. Mahbubul Karim and Asst. Representative (Programme) of FAO, United Nations (UN) Dr. Nur Ahamed Khondaker graced the occasion as guests of honour.
Registrar of SEU Major Gen. Kazi Fakhruddin Ahmed, psc (Retd.) and Dean, School of Science and Engineering Prof. Syed Fakhrul Hassan delivered respectively the welcome address and vote of thanks, while Chairman of the Department of Pharmacy Prof. Dr. Mamunur Rashid chaired the programme.
Seminar at EU
A seminar on "Role of the Media in promoting Higher Education" organised by the Public Relations Office of Eastern University (EU) was held on July 11, 2015 at the Seminar Hall of EU. Nurul Islam Nahid, MP, Minister of Education was present as the chief guest in the programme. Abul Khair Chowdhury, Chairman, BOT, EU was present as the guest of honour and Swadesh Roy, Executive Editor, Daily Janakantha; Mostafiz Sofi, Executive Editor, Daily Samakal and Tushar Abdullah, Head of News, Somoy TV were present as special guests.
The seminar was chaired by the VC of Eastern University, Prof. Dr. Abdur Rab while Rahul Raha, Current Affairs Editor of Channel 24 presented the keynote speech. Prof. Dr. Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, Pro-VC of EU delivered the welcome speech. Members of BOT, EU; senior journalists from different print and electronic media; teachers, officials and students of EU were also present at the seminar.
ULAB and US Embassy jointly organise international conference
The Department of English at ULAB, in partnership with the US Embassy, Dhaka, organised a two-day international conference on July 10-11, 2015. The conference examined the relationship between language and literature within the frame of English studies, and its impact on community. The event took place at ULAB's Campus A in Dhanmondi, Dhaka.
The chief guest Md. Nazrul Islam, Secretary, Ministry of Education said that English is more than a discipline; it has become a technological tool to ensure connectivity. The special guest, Ann McConnell, deputy chief of mission of the US Embassy lauded the initiative of ULAB.
The keynote speaker for the conference was Dr. Jenny Sharpe, Professor of English, Comparative Literature and Gender Studies from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
The 75 presenters at the conference represented 5 countries, including Bangladesh. Foreign participants included Dr. Ulka Anjaria (Brandeis University, Boston); Dr. Madhusmita Pati (Ravenshaw University, Cuttack, India); SeoIn Cho, Eun Bin Suk and Yonbom Chung (Ewha Womans University, Seoul, South Korea).
