Young Entrepreneurs Society of North South University, best known as NSU YES! is organising the 'Otobi presents AD Maker Bangladesh 2014' driven by Navana, Toyota. Following the success of its previous editions, this year's event is bigger than ever and promises many adventures on the road to the finale of the creative fight among universities of the country.
The planning and preparation started in February with the organisers deciding to integrate an intra-university competition -- for the students of North South University -- and participation of other teams from 75 universities. Qualified teams would then participate in the final stages of AD Maker Bangladesh 2014.
A registration booth was set up on campus for the intra-NSU segment which saw much enthusiasm from students. Participants were then briefed about the rules and regulations at a workshop held on February 22. Later, after two exciting rounds in which teams had to submit their ideas for advertisements in the form of a TVC and in presentation slides, the final event was arranged on March 20 which saw 15 teams qualify for the grand stages of the competition decided upon by a panel of judges.
The event then moved on to a larger audience and greater competition. This year NSU YES! conducted roadshows and workshops at universities in Dhaka as well as a separate Chittagong Round of the event in the Port City. Teams from University of Chittagong, East Delta University and University of Science and Technology Chittagong participated in a special workshop on March 22 and the round was decided on March 28. Team 'The Amateurs' were declared champions and won a cash prize of BDT 10000.
In Dhaka however, roadshows were held at 15 of the top public and private universities -- namely Dhaka University (Faculty of Business Studies), Institute of Business Administration, Jahangirnagar University, Northern University, BRAC University, Manarat International University, United International University, Daffodil International University, Green University, State University of Bangladesh, University of South Asia, Independent University Bangladesh, American International University Bangladesh, Bangladesh University of Business and Technology and Bangladesh University of Professionals. An exclusive roadshow was also carried out in Rajshahi University to attract interested students from the northern region of the country.
On April 4, 2014, all 254 teams from 75 universities joined to participate in the workshop hosted by the organisers at the Bashundhara campus of North South University. Soumendra Sankar Das, Marketing Director of GlaxoSmithKline; Amitabh Reza Chowdhury, Producer and Director at Half Stop Down; Ruhina Halim, Vice President and Researcher at Quantum Consumer Solutions; Gousul Alam Shaon, CEO of Grey Advertising Bangladesh Limited, graced the event as guest conductors of the workshop. Different attributes of marketing and advertising were talked upon at the programme to guide the participants through the event and their future careers. The programme was also aired live on the club's official web TV channel which was launched on the same day.
The teams were informed about the upcoming stages of the contest and updated about their task -- preparing a business proposal on designing and developing the promotion for an imaginary handicraft store. Accepted proposals would be nominated by a jury board and the qualified teams will lead into the final round.
