Shibir man killed in Noakhali 'cop firing'

An activist of Islami Chhatra Shibir was killed as police opened fire to disperse activists of Awami League and the 19-party alliance who were clashing over establishing supremacy at a polling centre in Sonaimuri upazila of Noakhali.

Deceased Saddam Hossain, 22, was a resident of Nandiapara area and a supporter of Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, our Noakhali correspondent reports.

A clash ensued between the supporters of ruling AL and BNP-led 19-party alliance in Nandiapara Degree College polling centre around 1:45pm, locals said.

At one stage, law enforcers tried to bring the situation under control by open gunshots.

The Shibir men dead on the spot, locals added.
