Shibir leader killed 'while fleeing Rab custody'
A leader of Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, was run over by a truck while trying to flee the custody of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in Chapainawabganj town today, the elite force claimed.
Asadullah Tuhin, 20, was Shibir president of City College unit located in the district headquarters, reports our Chapainwabganj correspondent.
Rab members picked up five Shibir activists including Tuhin around 4:00pm yesterday and seized 23 books on Jihad from their possession, said Major Kamruzzaman, camp commander of Rab-5 in Chapainawabganj.
Rab claimed that Tuhin was detained as he was involved with many subversive activities and supplying crude bombs to his aides to carry out the anarchy.
After interrogation, Rab-5 members decided to conduct a drive in Ramchandrapur Haat area in Sadar upazila to recover hidden crude bombs.
As the team along with Tuhin reached at Lalapara around 3:00am, Tuhin jumped off the Rab’s vehicle to escape from the elite force’s custody and was run over by a truck, the Rab official added.
Emadul Haque, father of Tuhin, said Rab picked up his son when he was sleeping at his Charmohanpur home in Chapainawabganj municipality area around noon yesterday. Family members knew nothing about the reason behind Tuhin’s detention, the father said.
