Seeking solace
Solace is the only thing to play for last edition's finalists Bangladesh when they take on unbeaten Sri Lanka in their last game of the Asia Cup at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur today.
A heartbreaking three-wicket defeat against Pakistan in the previous match killed all their hopes, if there were any, of repeating the heroics of 2012 but they can seek inspiration from the defeat, so as to stop Sri Lanka's dominance over them for the last two months.
The Tigers will desperately be looking to go into the ICC World Twenty20 with something. Mushfiqur Rahim's men deserve a victory after the way they played in the tournament, except their shocking defeat against Associate Member Afghanistan.
But the Lankans are also in good form and they will try to do the fine-tuning for Saturday's final against Pakistan; especially they will want to see their two batsmen Mahela Jayawardene and Dinesh Chandimal come up with some significant scores before the title match against a strong Pakistan bowling attack.
Opener Anamul Haque, who hit a magnificent hundred to set the platform for his skipper Mushfiqur and Shakib Al Hasan to achieve their highest ODI score of 326 against Pakistan, however, said that they were expecting something good in the last game.
"We already played three one-day and two T20 matches against Sri Lanka, so we know about their strength and weakness. If we can apply ourselves like we did in the last game then a good result is possible," said Anamul while talking with reporters at a local hotel yesterday.
"Winning is a habit and we need to win a match," he added.
