A schoolgirl was rescued an hour into abduction from Rishkhali village in Harinakundo upazila of the district yesterday.
Police arrested one of the abductors named Abdus Salam, 24, son of Shahidul Islam of Dakhalpur village in the upazila.
Ershadul Kabir, officer in-charge of Harinakundo Police Station, said a gang of two abducted the 12-year-old girl, also a class VI student at Rishkhali International Pre-Cadet School, while she was going to attend her coaching classes at the school around 8:40am. The gang immediately left the scene in a microbus.
Being informed by a witness to the incident, law enforcers put up barricades at all entry and exit points of the upazila town.
They caught Salam and rescued the girl from a narrow lane of the town around 9:30am and seized the microbus.
Another abductor, Rana Hossain, 22, and the driver of the microbus, however, managed to escape the arrest, the OC added.
