SC warns Bodi for threatening ACC
The Supreme Court today warned ruling Awami League lawmaker Abdur Rahman Bodi for issuing a threat against the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The apex court can revoke Bodi’s bail in a graft case if he makes such comments in future, said the four-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha.
On September 15, Bodi threatened the ACC saying that he would reveal "all secrets" of the Anti-Corruption Commission and its Chairman Mohammad Badiuzzaman if they tried to prove him corrupt.
The lawmaker from Cox's Bazar-4 constituency was addressing a discussion organised to mark the National Income Tax Day in Chittagong.
On October 27, the High Court granted Bodi a six-month bail in a graft case filed by the ACC.
Today, the Supreme Court upheld the HC’s bail order in response to an appeal filed by the anti-graft watchdog challenging the bail order. The ACC lawyer placed The Daily Star report containing Bodi’s comment before the apex court.
The MP was sued by the ACC in August allegedly for concealing information in his wealth statement and amassing wealth beyond his known sources of income.
