SC stays HC order
The Supreme Court yesterday stayed a High Court verdict that ordered for relocating Samajik Shikkhakendra Government Primary School (SSGPS) from the premises of Bangladesh Girl Guides Association (BGGA) in capital's Bailey Road area.
Following the stay, there is no legal bar for SSGPS to remain on the premises of BGGA and to run its functions there till its further order, Additional Attorney General Murad Reza told The Daily Star.
There is a dispute between the authorities concerned of SSGPS and BGGA over the land where the SSGPS was established. BGGA reportedly demolished the school in August this year leaving the fate of its students uncertain.
Yesterday, a four-member bench of the Appellate Division of the SC led by Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha passed the stay order after hearing a government petition seeking stay on the HC verdict.
The apex court also allowed the government to move an appeal before it challenging the HC order.
Following a writ petition, the HC in February this year ordered for relocating SSGPS and uniting it with another primary school, Nidhu Smriti Primary School, in the same area of the capital.
