SC order on Khaleda's appeals today
The Supreme Court will pass its orders today on BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's appeals challenging two High Court decisions regarding acceptance of charges and charge framing in the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case.
One of the two leave-to appeal petitions was filed in 2012 challenging an HC verdict that rejected a petition against a lower court order, which accepted charges against Khaleda in the case.
Khaleda filed another petition with the apex court on July 7 this year challenging another HC verdict that upheld a lower court's order framing charges against her over the same allegation.
Yesterday, a five-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Md Muzammel Hossain fixed today for passing orders after hearing the two appeals.
Meanwhile, the apex court also fixed today for resuming hearing on another appeal of Khaleda in Zia Charitable Trust graft case challenging an HC verdict that had upheld the charge framing against her by a lower court.
The Anti-Corruption Commission in 2009 filed the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case on charge of embezzling over Tk 2.1 crore by forming a “fake” trust which only exists on papers and filed the other case in 2011 on charge of abusing power during setting up the charitable trust.
