Sagar-Runi murder investigation
IT is absolutely disheartening that the progress in the investigation of the most gruesome killing of the journalist couple has made no progress at all. It has been 32 months that the couple was brutally murdered, and from what we can glean from media reports, the investigating authority has come to a cul-de-sac.
Such a pathetic status of a sensitive case, which has seen the regime of three home ministers, is absolutely unacceptable. Not only because they were members of our fraternity, but also that they were citizens of this country, we cannot accept the fact that the investigators have not even been able as yet to determine the clue of the murder, let alone tack the killers. It is disheartening that even after the responsibility of investigation was reposed on Rab the outcome is a big zero.
One wonders why the people in responsible positions in the police and the ministry of home had been leading us up the garden path. We were being repeatedly assured that the mystery would be solved soon; from within two weeks to two months we are now very nearly coming up to three years since the murder.
We can fully understand the mental agony of the members of the family of the deceased and Providence only knows when their wait will end. And for those who are in custody as suspects in the case are languishing in jail without having any charges proffered against them, the situation is equally bad.
Apart from the legal and humanitarian aspects of the case it needs to be solved quickly to dispel the gossips that have been making the rounds as to the motive of the murder.
