Ruet closed after Shibir-BCL clash
Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (Ruet) have been closed for an indefinite period following a clash
between the activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League and Islami Chhatra Shibir.
The university authorities have asked residential students to vacate their halls by 10:00am tomorrow, reports our Rajshahi University correspondent.
The closure decision was taken at an emergency meeting of the Ruet’s academic council this evening, Prof Rafiqul Alam Beg, vice-chancellor of the university, told The Daily Star.
Earlier in the day, at least 11 Shibir men including its Ruet unit general secretary Ahmed Yasir were picked up from a residential hall following chase and counter chase between the student bodies on the campus.
Two Shibir men were injured during the clash.
Shibir activists blasted around 12 crude bombs while police fired 100 rounds of bullet from their shotguns to bring the situation under control, said Tanvir Haider Chowdhury, deputy commissioner of police.
