‘Robber’ killed in Jessore ‘shootout’
A suspected robber was killed in a “shootout” with police in Keshabpur upazila of Jessore early today.
Deceased Mahbub Hossain 35, was a leader of an inter-district robber gang, reports our Jhenidah correspondent.
Reshma Sharmin, additional superintendent of police (ASP) in Jessore, said a gang of robbers were taking preparation for committing robbery at Bakeritola around 3:00am.
As a patrol team reached there, the robbers opened fire at the law enforcers, forcing them to retaliate with bullets that triggered a “gunfight”.
Mahbub came in the line of fire and died on the spot while the rest managed to flee the scene, the ASP said.
Police recovered a pistol and six bullets from the scene.
Four policemen including KM Ariful Haq, additional superintendent of police in Jessore were injured during the incident. They were admitted to Jessore police line hospital.
