Road crashes kill 8 in 3 districts
At least eight people including two women and a child were killed and 15 others injured in separate road accidents in three districts on Friday.
In Tangail Sadar, five people were killed, including a woman and a child, and 13 others injured when a bus and a truck collided head-on at Gharinda on the Dhaka-Tangail highway around 5:30am.
Only two of dead were identified as Moti Miah, 55, of Anantapur village in Phulbari upazila and Noor Hossain Manik, 35, of Goladaha village in Kurigram Sadar upazila, told our Tangail correspondent quoting Kamruzzaman Raj, sub-inspector, of Elenga highway police outpost.
“A tyre of the bus exploded causing the driver to lose control. Four people died on the spot. Another succumbed on the way to Tangail Medical College Hospital. Among the injured victims eight people were attending treatments at the hospital while two were sent to Dhaka for better treatment.”
In Munshiganj, two people including a woman were killed and one wounded when a bus rammed a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on Meghna-Gomoti Bridge on Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Gazaria upazila this morning.
The deceased were identified as Siraj Mia, 45, driver of the auto-rickshaw and its passenger Saleha Begum, 40, both from the upazila, reports our Munshiganj correspondent quoting Ashraf Uddin, sub-inspector of the Bhoberchar Highway Police outpost.
The bus was seized but the driver managed to flee. The injured passenger was sent to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital as his condition deteriorated.
In Pirojpur, a motorcyclist died losing control of his motorcycle and hitting a tree in Sadar upazila around 2:00am. His wife Farzana Ferdaus, 30, was injured.
The deceased was identified as Tuhin, 40, son of late Abdur Rashid Akon of Khulna, reports our Pirojpur correspondent quoting Asadur Rahman, sub-inspector of Pirojpur Sadar Police Station.
“Police stopped them on the way to Bekutiya Ferry Terminal. To escape, Tuhin tried to drive away recklessly and managed to hit a nearby tree.”
