Records galore in the pool
Mohammad Ariful Islam, Marium Khatun and Do Thui Pru Marma continued their brilliant show on the second day of the Cotton Group 30th National Age Level Swimming Competition at the National Swimming Complex in Mirpur yesterday. Ariful, the BKSP student competing in the 18-20 age group, grabbed five more gold setting two new records on the second day to take his gold tally to 10. Ariful set the two new records in 100m freestyle and 200m breaststroke.
In the girls' 15-17 age group, Do Thui collected three more gold medals along with one silver and one bronze to add to the four gold medals she won on the opening day.
Bangladesh Ansar were in second position with 12 gold, 12 silver and 15 bronze medals. In third place were Bogra Swimming Centre with nine gold, six silver and one bronze medal thanks largely to Marium, who won four gold and one silver to add to the four gold and one silver she had won on the opening day. Out of Marium's eight gold, seven came in record time.
In total, there were eight new records set on the second day in 34 events. 30 more events will be decided on the last day of the meet today.
