Rebel JCD men lock its office for 2nd day
Dissident Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) leaders and activists kept its Nayapaltan central office under lock and key yesterday for the second day in Dhaka demanding cancellation of its new committee.
Over a hundred deprived JCD men extended their ultimatum to seven days from 48 hours issued Tuesday to meet their demands. Otherwise, they threatened to intensify their agitation.
Talking to The Daily Star, several JCD dissidents today said they kept the office locked for the second day as their demand for forming a fresh JCD central committee was not met yet.
Led by Anisur Rahman Talukder, Tariqul Islam, Ferdaus Munna, the JCD dissidents staged a demonstration for over an hour from 3:30pm in front of the BNP Nayapaltan central office.
No unwarranted incidents took place at that time as new leaders of JCD were not in the office.
On October 14, Khaleda Zia approved a 201-member partial committee with Rajib Ahsan as president and Akramul Hasan as general secretary, but it was vehemently opposed by those who did not get leadership positions.
The dissidents first locked the office on October 18. After continuous agitation for five days, the rebels withdrew their movement with the assurance of BNP high-ups to place their demand before Khaleda Zia.
Khaleda later assigned BNP Dhaka City convener Mirza Abbas to resolve the JCD in fight but failed so far in spite of several meetings with the dissidents.
