Ranga group recaptures JP office
Supporters of State Minister for LGRD Moshiur Rahman Ranga, who was removed from Jatiya Party presidium post recently, took control of the party's Rangpur district office yesterday evening.
They made the move 18 hours after the office had been occupied by the supporters of party chief Ershad.
A tension is prevailing between the supporters of the two groups there.
Police said JP leaders and activists, led by Hasanuzzaman Nazim, general secretary of Jatiya Jubo Sanghati of Rangpur district unit, stormed the office, breaking the lock around 6:00pm yesterday. Hasanuzzaman is a supporter of Ranga.
Ershad supporter Mostafizur Rahman Mostafa, who is also the convener of Rangpur city unit JP convening committee, said he heard the news.
Supporters of Ershad on Tuesday night occupied the office after the rival group had allegedly attacked SM Yasir, member secretary of the convening committee. Yasir was stabbed in the city's Jummapara area on that night.
Abdul Qader Jilani, officer-in-charge of Rangpur Kotwali Police Station, said additional police had been deployed in the area to avert any untoward incident.
On September 10, Ershad removed Ranga from the party's presidium post and dissolved JP's Rangpur district and city unit committees.
Ershad also announced two separate convening committees of the district and city units on the same day.
Following the incident, leaders and activists of the dissolved committees occupied the JP Rangpur district office.
